

Ellen was born on April 1, 1934 in Brooklyn, NY to Jacob and Freda Pesachowitz. She grew up in Flemington, NJ, lived most of her life in Ossining, NY and recently lived in Newton, MA. She earned degrees from Rutgers University and Columbia Teachers College. On December 25, 1957, she married Melvin Kaplan. She was a school teacher before becoming a mother. She had four children: her eldest daughter Marla and three sons, Jeffrey, Stuart and David.
Ellen had a passion for artwork, both collecting and creating. She loved her family more than the world. She also enjoyed theater and travel.
In addition to her beloved husband Melvin, Ellen is survived by her three children: Marla Kannel and her husband Bill and their children Joe, Alex, & Ben; Stuart Kaplan and his wife Angie and their children Morgan, Chase, Orion, Zane, and David Kaplan and his husband Todd and their son Drew; her brother, Alvin Pesachowitz and his wife Connie; her brother-in-law, John Campbell, several nieces and nephews, and many friends. She was preceded in death by her son Jeffrey, her father, Jacob, her mother, Freda, and her sister Susan Campbell.
Funeral and Shiva will be private.
