Elliot Lawrence Glickler of Dorchester, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on November 26th, 2025, in the company of his loving daughters Katherine Pia and Caroline Emily. Elliot is also survived by granddaughter Isabelle Dorothy, brother Paul of Dallas, Texas, sister Estelle of Jerusalem, brother-in-law Marty, nieces Tamar, Michal, and Riki, nephews David, Andrew, and Danny, and many cherished grandnieces and grandnephews.
Elliot was born in June 1944 in Brooklyn, New York to Robert Henry Glickler and Dorothy Sobel Glickler. In his childhood, he loved playing cards with his Grandpa Sobel, eating his Grandma Sobel’s and mother’s Ashkenazi cooking, and soaking in family life surrounded by his many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Elliot proudly attended Amherst College from 1961 – 1965. He spent his junior year abroad in Paris, France, where he solidified his love of the French language, cuisine, and culture. After college, Elliot earned his Juris Doctorate from Harvard Law School, where he acquired many lifelong friends as well as a distaste for the study and practice of law. Soon after graduating, Elliot got a job teaching Italian at East Boston High School although he did not speak Italian (whereas many of his students did). Nevertheless, he did well enough to later get hired to teach French and Spanish at Newton South High School, where he spent nearly 40 years inspiring young minds with his passion and charisma. After retiring from teaching, Elliot took up work as a (trilingual!) tour guide of Boston. He loved this opportunity to continue learning, sharing, and entertaining in his senior years.
Elliot loved cooking, art, music, travel, and dressing himself with flair. Never one to sit still for too long, Elliot was an active participant in many community groups and charitable endeavors. Among others, very close to his heart were the Gay Fathers of Greater Boston, Easton Mountain Retreat Center, Dorchester GALA, and First Parish Dorchester.
Elliot’s pride and joy were his two daughters. He recently described their early childhood as the best years of his life. After the birth of his granddaughter in 2023, there was nowhere else that Zadie would rather be than in her company, sharing his great sense of mischief and imagination.
Elliot will be remembered with pride, love, and laughter by his family and many friends.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, November 30, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Levine Chapels, 470 Harvard Street, Brookline, MA.
