Born August 12, 1933 in Secureni, Romania to the late Filip & Ana Wertsman.
Beloved wife of the late Lester Annenberg, devoted mother to her late daughter, Mara, and her son-in-law Marius Brill, loving sister to the late Vladimir Wertsman, caring grandmother to Alissa Brill, Jessica Brill and her husband Robert and her great-grandson Miles.
A survivor of persecution during World War II in Transistria, her family settled in Bacau, Romania after the war. She immigrated to the United States with her first husband, Iancu (Jack), and only daughter, Mara, in 1967. She lived in New York for many years and was a bookkeeper for jewelry businesses, marrying the love of her life Lester in 1975. They eventually settled in Brookline in 1989 to be closer to her daughter and growing family.
Fira was an avid reader, especially of non-fiction books, biographies, TIME Magazine and the New York Times, and enjoyed watching comedy programs and Jeopardy. She loved cooking and feeding her family and visitors. Fira was fiercely independent and had an extremely sharp memory. Affectionately called Nana by her grandchildren, she had a special bond with her great grandson, Miles, enjoying video calling with him and virtually eating dinner together.
