

Flora R. (Finn) Shor Dopkeen, R.N., age 90 years, of Canton, MA, formerly of Boston, Worcester and Falmouth, on Wednesday, October 16, 2013. Born in Boston on October 16, 1923, daughter of the late Harry C. & Dora E. (Barnard) Finn. Beloved wife of the late Dr. Saul Kahn Dopkeen. Loving mother of Joanne B. Shor Levy & her husband Kenneth P. Levy of CT, Jayne Shor of CA, and Michael Shor & his wife Nancy of MA. She is also survived by her step-children, Joyce C. Dopkeen of NY, Dr. Leslie Dopkeen & her husband, Dr. Lawrence Rosenblum of NY, and Dr. Jonathan C. Dopkeen & his wife, Kathleen of IL. She leaves 6 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, numerous adored nieces and nephews, and was predeceased by a loving granddaughter, Gillian Shor. Dear sister of the late Louise B. Finn, Ida Levin, and Helen Paul. Her first husband, Norman N. Shor died in 1961. Flora enjoyed a very varied career in nursing. Following her graduation from Beth Israel Hospital School of Nursing she worked as a staff nurse in the Operating Room at Beth Israel where she later became Co-Director of the OR. She later worked for Dr. Louis Hermanson, a well-known Boston surgeon. She moved to Worcester after her marriage in 1950. After the death of her first husband in 1961, she returned to work at Worcester City Hospital as a staff R.N. and later became a Private Duty Nurse working at all of the hospitals in Worcester. From 1968 to 1971 she was the Rehabilitation R.N. at Morgan Memorial Goodwill Industries in Worcester. From 1973 until her marriage to Dr. Saul K. Dopkeen in 1986, Flora was associated with the American Red Cross Blood Program in Worcester. She retired from the program in 1987 and moved to Falmouth. In September of 1993 the Dopkeen’s were among the first few people to move into the Orchard Cove Retirement Community in Canton. For many years Flora had been associated with the Hospice Movement as an active volunteer with patients as well as their families. She began her work in the Palliative Care Unit at University of Massachusetts Medical Center, Hospice of Cape Cod, and Neponset Valley Hospice in Norwood.
Graveside services at Sharon Memorial Park, 41 Dedham St., Sharon on Sunday, October 20 at 12:45pm. Immediately following, all are invited to Orchard Cove, 1 Del Pond Dr., Canton through 5:00pm. Memorial observance will continue at the home of Joanne & Kenneth Levy on Monday from 3:00pm - 7:00pm. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Old Colony Hospice, 1 Credit Union Way, Randolph, MA 02368.
