

Aged 71, of Townsend, MA, died peacefully on July 21, 2025, after suffering a stroke and living with vascular dementia for four years.
Gary was the son of the late Edward and Susan Simon (nee Heymann). He is predeceased by his loving sister Margo Golden. He is survived by his brother Donald and sister-in-law Susana de la Torre of Burke, Virginia, and his devoted nieces, Elena and Eli Simon. Gary is also survived by his brother-in-law Neil Golden of Boston, adoring nephews Andrew and wife Kate Golden and Craig Golden. He is also survived by adoring cousins, Jeff Knopf and his wife Rochelle of Amherst, Randy Knopf and his wife Adrienne of Falmouth, Ken Knopf and his wife Debra of Plymouth, as well as the Knopf children Joel, Eddie, Remy, David, Justin and Sofia.
Gary was born in Lawrence, went to Searles Elementary in Methuen, and moved to Andover, MA. He graduated from Andover High School in 1971 and the University of Massachusetts-Amherst in 1975 with an undergraduate degree in Business Administration. Gary obtained his real estate license and worked for many years with his dad at ABCO Realty Corp. specializing in commercial real estate. Some of the larger transactions that Gary brokered included the establishment of Home Depot in Peabody, the leasing of land in Natick for the construction of BJ’s Wholesale Club, and the sales of a paper products company in Haverhill and an apartment complex in Lowell. Subsequently, Gary obtained his real estate appraisers license and started his own appraisal company ABCO Appraisals.
Gary enjoyed boating, bicycling, and all Boston sports teams. Everyone close to him was impressed by his generosity, thoughtfulness, industriousness, great sense of humor and love of family.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 25, 2025 at 11am at Temple Emanuel of Andover, 7 Haggetts Pond Road, Andover, MA. Burial to follow at Temple Emanuel Cemetery, 202 Mt. Vernon Street, Lawrence, MA.
