from complications of marginal zone
splenic lymphoma. Dr. Entine was born
on August 4th, 1943 in Philadelphia,
PA. His parents, Raymond Entine, a
pharmacist, and Blanche Goldsmith
Entine together ran a mom and pop
drug store in Elkins Park, PA. Jerry attended
the Philadelphia public schools,
including graduating in the 216th
Class of Central High School with a
Bachelor of Arts. In 1965, he earned
a Bachelor of Science in Physics from
the University of Pennsylvania, having
been a member of the university’s first
General Honors Class. He then went to
the University of California at Berkeley
and received his Ph.D. in Physics under
the guidance of Dr. Melvin Calvin and
Dr. Owen Chamberlain, both Nobel
laureates.
After graduation, he moved to
Boston to work at Tyco Laboratories,
after which he founded Radiation
Monitoring Devices, Inc., his own
company dedicated to the development
of advanced nuclear detectors
and performing contract research for
the Federal Government. In 2008, he
merged the company with the publicly
traded Dynasil Corporation and, by the
time of his retirement in 2013, he had
increased the size of his division to a
staff of 120 persons, 50 of whom held
Ph.D.s.
He is survived by his beloved wife
Patricia K. Entine, his daughter, Victoria
Entine Neril, her husband, Michael,
and their son Andrew of Beverly Hills,
CA, his son Oliver Entine of New York
City, his sister, Ruth Entine Nelson
of Watertown, MA, and his brother,
Steven Entine of Middletown, WI.
Jerry will also be sorely missed by
his stepdaughter, Kimberly Paster,
her husband Bradley, their children
Caroline, Katherine, and Jake of Dover,
MA and by his stepdaughter, Wendy
Matesanz and her husband Jonathan
and their children Alexa and Corey of
Ithaca, NY.
Services will be held on Friday, May
25 at 12:30 p.m. at Stanetsky Memorial
Chapel, located at 1668 Beacon Street,
Brookline, MA 02445 (617-232-9300).
Interment to follow at Crawford Street
Memorial Park, 776 Baker Street, West
Roxbury.
