GERDA D. KALMAN: Born in Vienna, Austria September 5, 1926. Escaped with her mother to Shanghai, China in 1939 to avoid the Holocaust. Married Chaim Aaron Kalman in China 1948. Emigrated to the United States in 1948 and became a naturalized citizen. She worked with her husband on their family farm in Kingston, New Hampshire. Gerda earned a Bachelor and Master’s degree in history at the University of New Hampshire, being elected to Phi Betta Kappa, becoming a social studies teacher at Salem High School, retiring after 26 years. She loved promoting the model United Nations at the high school, which was a great success. After retirement, Gerda made several trips to Europe.
Gerda was predeceased by her husband and is survived her son Attorney Sumner F. Kalman. She was a wonderful wife, mother and teacher and will be dearly missed by all she touched.
