

Gershon "Jerry" Brody, a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on May 13, 2025, at the age of 89, in Newton, Massachusetts. Born on February 1, 1936, in the Bronx, New York, Jerry was the cherished son of Morris and Laura Brody, who instilled in him values of kindness, patience, and insight that would guide him throughout his life.
Jerry was preceded in death by his devoted parents and his beloved wife, Rita "Ricky" Brody, with whom he shared a loving marriage of 55 years. Their bond was a testament to their deep connection, marked by mutual support and endless affection. Jerry is survived by his son Mitch Brody, daughter-in-law Julie Kannel, and his cherished granddaughter, Hannah Brody. He carried the memories of his family close to his heart, and they will forever hold him in theirs.
Jerry served in the Air Force, where he developed a sense of duty and camaraderie that stayed with him long after his military service. Following his time in the armed forces, Jerry pursued a successful career as an electrical engineer with the IBM Research Team, where he played a crucial role in the development of Deep Blue, a groundbreaking chess-playing computer that changed the landscape of artificial intelligence.
In retirement, Jerry and Rita moved to Vermont, where he embraced his passion for baking and founded Battenkill Bread, a small business that allowed him to share his love of baking with others at the local farmers market. Following their time in Vermont, Jerry and Rita moved to Falmouth, Massachusetts where they made cherished connections with many new friends. Whether it was casting a line while fishing or kneading dough for a fresh loaf of bread, Jerry found joy in simplicity and the beauty of everyday moments.
Those who knew Jerry remember him as a kind, patient, and insightful man. His wisdom and gentle spirit touched the lives of many, leaving a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him. In this time of mourning, the family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the kind and thoughtful friends and family who have offered their support. Jerry Brody's legacy of love, dedication, and kindness will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for the joy he brought to so many lives.

A graveside service will be held at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery located at 1390 Main St, Agawam, MA, 01001, United States. The service is scheduled for May 21, 2025, at 2:00 pm.
