Harrison Roberts, 58, the loving husband of Yi Gao-Roberts, devoted father of Gabrielle and Arianna, passed away on August 31 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston after a long battle with kidney disease. He was also a colon cancer survivor.
He was born June 1, 1967, in Bay Shore, New York, son of Bill and Carole Roberts, a civil engineer and an artist.
Early on he developed a lifelong love of cartooning, a passion he shared with his mother. He drew and published whimsical cartoons and illustrations his entire life.
In 1989, Harrison graduated from the University of Rochester, where he studied optical engineering, developing high tech laser systems.
He got his MBA in management from the MIT Sloan School of Management.
In 1995, Harry met Yi in Ann Arbor, Michigan and they fell in love, marrying in Port Jefferson, New York in 1998.
In 2005, Harry was diagnosed with stage four colon cancer. However, he beat the odds and survived. In 2008, he biked the Pan-Mass challenge to celebrate being cured and to help donate to cancer research.
Harrison worked at Dell Technologies for 14 years, rising to a senior consultant product manager for their Emerging Technologies Division. He was a parallel computing senior project manager at MathWorks, and Director of AI at Aspen Technology.
Harry was fascinated with the endless possibilities of our magnificent universe, and loved superheroes, Star Trek, literature, science fiction and astronomy, participating with his daughters in amateur efforts to chart the cosmos.
He was a proud father and husband, who loved to spend time with his family and friends. He was determined to see his girls grow up, and was able to see Gabrielle get accepted into UMass Chan Medical School for a doctorate of nursing practice and Arianna go off to college at the University of Connecticut.
In addition to his many devoted friends, survivors include his daughters, wife, mother, and sister.
