Jay Charles Grutman, 67, of Vero Beach, Florida, Rhinebeck, New York, and Newport, Rhode Island, passed away on July 22, 2026.
Born in Winchester, New York, Jay was the beloved son of Seymour Grutman and Rhoddie (Levine) Grutman.
Jay received his undergraduate degree at Sarah Lawrence and later earned his master’s degree from Bard College. He devoted his career to overseeing and administering his family’s business interests and properties, a responsibility he carried with great care and integrity. Through his dedication and willingness to help others, he became not only a valued member of several condominium association boards but also served as president of them for many years, guiding the communities with wisdom, patience, and steady leadership. He had a lifelong passion for antiques and classic cars, and through these interests he built lasting friendships and found a community that became like family.
Jay is survived by his devoted wife of 28 years, Mindy (Smith) Grutman. As a devoted dog lover, Jay rescued two Yorkshire Terriers and later surprised Mindy with a Maltese. Their beloved dogs were cherished members of the family and accompanied them on many of their travels.
Jay will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and the respect he earned from everyone who knew him. He will be deeply missed.
A memorial gathering will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Florida Yorkie Rescue at www.http://www.floridayorkierescue.com/Donations.html .
