Jay A. Koslof, Psy.D., 67, long time Brookline resident, most recently of Waltham and Jamaica Plain, on February 6, 2022. Dr. Koslof was born in New York City on June 19, 1954 to Irving and Marion (Levy) Koslof. He spent ages ten through 17 in Rochdale Village. It was here where he formed incredibly deep and enduring friendships with a group of boys (the “Pros”), who have maintained a level of intimacy and honesty for over 50 years that is often unusual for their gender.
Jay went on to attend SUNY at Buffalo, where he earned Phi Beta Kappa honors, and then to the Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology (now William James College). He worked as a Clinical Psychologist, with specialties in ADHD and Neuropsychological assessment, for over 30 years, working at West-Ros-Park, Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates, and Beacon Health Strategies, among other places.
But as important as his work was to him, nothing meant more to Jay than his family. He met his wife of 40 years, Dr. Laurie Brandt, in the first week of her internship at McLean Hospital, and the rest, as they say, was history. Together they raised three sons: Benjamin Koslof (Jessie Amsler), Nathaniel Koslof (Trudi Pugatch), and Evan Koslof (Justin Noble). Nothing gave him more pleasure than jamming on guitar with Ben, coaching Nathaniel and Evan’s basketball and soccer teams, or being the resident fantasy football consultant for the neighborhood.
In addition to his wife and sons, Dr. Koslof leaves two grandchildren, Jackson (16 months) and Olivia (5 months); his sister Karen Rose of Newton; his brother Gerry Koslof of Maryland; and many, many friends and colleagues.
A funeral service will be held at the Levine Chapels, 470 Harvard St. in Brookline, on Friday February 11, at 10:45 am, with burial following at the Baker St. Cemeteries in West Roxbury.
Donations in his honor can be made to the Eric Chase Fund at Dana Farber; or to the Rogerson House in Jamaica Plain.
