Joseph Isman, age 96, of Boca Raton, FL, formerly of Brooklyn, NY passed away on Tuesday, February 19, 2019. He is survived by his wife of 68 years Dorothy, son Marshall and his wife Vicki, daughter Melanie and her husband Peter, five grandchildren Michael, David, Tracy, Keilah, and Gabriel, and four great-grandchildren Henry, Hazel, Samuel, and Levi. He is also survived by his brother Arthur.
Joe spent many years in Brooklyn working in the retail shoe industry, but his professional pride came from officiating basketball and umpiring baseball and softball. He was honored by the Basketball Hall of Fame for his work in training and mentoring young referees, including Manny Sokol and Dick Bavetta who both had long careers in the NBA. He served in the Air Force during World War II, working as a crew chief of flight mechanics maintaining training planes.
Funeral services will be at Levine Chapels, 470 Harvard St, Brookline on Thursday, February 21 at 12pm.
Interment to follow at Temple Emanuel Memorial Park, 490 North Street, Randolph.
Shiva will be at Marshall and Vicki’s home, 11 Valleyspring Rd, Newton on Thursday 6:30-8:30pm, Friday 1-3pm, Sunday 1-3pm and 6:30-8:30pm.
