Beloved husband of Betsy Livingston Sheffer. Loving father of Adam Livingston Sheffer of New York, NY, Peter Jeremy Sheffer of Wellesley, MA and Dr. Emily Hope Sheffer of New York, NY. Dear son of the late Dr. and Mrs. Maurice I. Sheffer of Brookline, MA and uncle to Daniel Herwitz, PhD of Cape Town, South Africa.

Marriage to his beloved Betsy was filled with love and laughter. They were the quintessential teammates.

The four words that describe Joe are “He was the best!” His family and friends were blessed to know him for as long as they did. He was a handsome man with a big smile, impeccable manners, a unique sense of humor, and a moral compass of integrity. In short, a mensch.
