

Joseph Zigmund "Joe" Steinberg, age 101 years, of Roslindale, MA. passed away peacefully on March 13, 2022. Joe was born to the late Mary (Modell) & Myer Steinberg in Boston, MA. He graduated from Roxbury Memorial High School (for boys) in 1938 and Boston University School of Management in 1942. He served in the United States Coast Guard during World War II.
Joe is survived by his loving wife Florence Eber Steinberg, who he married in 1993; his two daughters, Emily Perlman & her husband Richard of Prescott, AZ and Myra Janko & her husband Gary of Nashua, NH; his stepdaughter Susan Witten of Vineland, NJ; his grandchildren Cara Moroze & her husband Adam, Adam Janko & his wife Cristina Ferrara, and Thomas Perlman & his wife Katelynn; his step-grandchildren Dr. Matthew Witten & his partner Jason and Allison Witten-Perez & her husband José; his two great-grandsons Daniel Moroze and Charles Moroze; and his niece Sue Steinberg and her family. Joe was devoted to his family of whom he was immensely proud.
Joe was predeceased by his beloved wife Frances (Pecker) Steinberg in 1992. He was also predeceased by his brother David J. Steinberg (formerly Alexandria, VA) in 2011 and by his nephew Ben Steinberg (formerly Melbourne, FL) in 2014.
Joe was an auditor for the Rate Setting Commission, Commonwealth of MA for many years until his retirement in 1986. He always enjoyed giving back to the Jewish community by volunteering, including volunteer projects at Hebrew SeniorLife Center Communities of Brookline. He was honored to be a member of Temple Israel, Boston, from 1964 until his death.
The family is grateful for the outstanding care that Joe received at Hebrew Rehabilitation Center, Roslindale, MA where he moved with his dear Florence in 2018.
Joe traveled to Israel five times, enjoyed many trips to Barbados where he had the pleasure to visit his dear friends Angela & Fred Forde and their family, and Sheila McCollin, and visited countries all over the world where he made some life-long friends from his travels.
Joe had a lifelong friendship with Allan Bikofsky whom he met in kindergarten. Joe had many cherished friends who will miss him dearly including Sue Misselbeck, Ann Abrams, Laura Baber, Barbara Sternfield, and Rabbi Jim Morgan.
