Our beloved mother Josephine “Josie” Paitchel passed away peacefully in her sleep May 28, 2024 in Providence, Rhode Island. She was brought home to Natick, MA where she was laid to rest next to the love of her life, Sonny. Also in the cemetery are her parents and other relatives that she loved. Josephine was born January 29, 1932 in Natick, MA. Her parents Lilian and Frederick were thrilled to have a girl after having two boys; Leonard, twelve years older and Mel seven years older.
She grew up with loving parents in a close-knit family. The family moved a few different times but ultimately settled back in Framingham, where she finished her high school education and then went on to junior college in Boston.
She met her husband Sumner “Sonny” Paitchel at her closest friend Frannie’s home. They each came with a separate date but left together and from that point forward they were inseparable. Having seen them together that night Frannie’s father said that’s the man she’ll marry, which she did two years later at the age of 21.
Josie loved to work. Her father owned a manufacturing business in Hudson, MA and she convinced him to let her work in the office there. She loved the work and the time with her dad. After her children were grown she went on the road with Sonny selling dresses and evening wear throughout New England. She then took on the responsibility to run shows in the industry for the salesman. As if that wasn’t enough to keep her busy, she took on the responsibilities as controller of Summit Productions, her daughter's company. She traveled on site to many of the company's events.
Having married her husband Sonny, they lived first in Brookline, MA and when she was expecting her first child a year later, they moved home to Framingham. Her three children Donna, Jill, and Steven were each born at Framingham Hospital and grew up in the town.
Josie loved to play mahjong and other games with family and friends. She also golfed, knitted, crocheted, sewed, needlepointed plus other handwork. Josie was also very active in Hadassah for many years. Josie loved to travel with family and friends and she and Sonny saw so many places throughout America and around the world. She was a voracious reader and loved to share the books she enjoyed.
She wanted her children to have all kinds of opportunities and experiences including sports, piano lessons, Hebrew school, ballroom dancing and summer camp.
She was much beloved as a kind, thoughtful woman and was supportive to family, friends, and colleagues. She was always ready to help when help was needed.
She leaves behind Donna, Jill, and Steven and her daughter-in-law Maria and son-in-law Kevin, grandchildren Everett, Nathan & Hannah and Nathan’s wife Emma and her two great grandchildren Belle & Graham.
Service were private and will be followed by a “Celebration of Life” ceremony in August, 2024.
Our Mom will be greatly missed by family and friends near and far away. Our memories of Josie will be cherished forever.
