

Joyce Freedlander, 88, passed away November 28, 2016, in Mission Viejo, CA due to natural causes. Joyce was born September of 1928, in Boston, the daughter of Charles and Ida Shrago. She grew up in Dorchester, MA and graduated from Jeremiah E. Burke High School. In August of 1952, she married Donald Freedlander to whom she was married until his death in 2008.
Moving to Portland in 1965, Joyce was immediately struck by the sense of community and quickly came to call Portland her home. She loved going to flea markets, auctions and anywhere else where a bargain could be found. She moved to Florida in 2004 and later California after the death of her husband, to be near her sons.
Joyce is survived by her son, Richard Freedlander of Rancho Santa Margarita, CA, daughter, Nancy Clark of Abington, PA, son and daughter-in-law Robert & Terry Freedlander of Irvine, CA, and her grandchildren and their spouses Jamie & Jennifer Clark of Abington, PA, Sam & Melissa Freedlander of New Bedford, MA, Isaac Clark of Philadelphia,PA, Benjamin Freedlander of Irvine, CA, and Maverick & Jordan Freedlander of Irvine, CA. Joyce is also survived by her great grandchildren, Harry and Joey and many other extended family members whom she loved dearly. She is predeceased by her husband Donald Freedlander, her brother Louis Shrago and her sisters, Laura Schuyler, Shirley Zaval, and Ruth Heimberg.
Services at Levine Chapels, 470 Harvard Street, Brookline, Sunday, December 4, 2016 at 10:00am. Burial at Moses Mendelsohn Cemetery, 350 Grove Street, West Roxbury. Donations in lieu of flowers may be given to the local chapter of the American Cancer Society.
