
Laurie Schwartz Naparstek, age 52 of Worcester, passed away on Thursday, December 8 after a short illness. Laurie was born in Boston on September 12, l959 and lived in Newton throughout her childhood. She earned her B.A. in education in l981 from University of Massachusetts at Amherst, and later earned Master’s degrees from Suffolk University and Harvard University. In 2005, she received her Doctorate in Education from Boston University. Laurie was a founding board member and an early employee of the Kenneth B. Schwartz Center, now the Schwartz Center for Compassionate Care. For the past 10 years, Laurie worked at the University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester. Daughter of the late Dr. William B. Schwartz and sister of the late Kenneth B. Schwartz, Laurie is survived by her husband, Jay Naparstek of Worcester, her mother Carol (Levine) Schwartz of Newton, her brother Dr. Eric Schwartz, sister-in-law Dr. Gayle Tillman and twin nieces Ava and Eliana of Weston, her nephew Ben Schwartz and Ben’s mother, Ellen Rose Cohen, both of Newton. Laurie is also survived by her aunt Johnnie Scheff of Brighton, her uncle and aunt Herbert and Sandra Levine of Newton, her stepmother Tressa Miller of Los Angeles, her stepbrother Josh Miller of San Jose, her father-in-law Murray Naparstek of West Palm Beach, FL, her sister-in-law and brother-in-law Robin and Ricky Fasano of Suffern, NY, her sister-in-law and brother-in-law Sherri and Michael Naparstek of Boca Raton, FL, her nephews, Jason, Matthew, Richard, Steven, her niece Danielle and many special friends. Services will be held Friday, December 9 at 10am at Congregation Kehillath Israel, 384 Harvard Street, Brookline. Burial and Shiva will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Laurie’s memory to the Schwartz Center for Compassionate Care, 205 Portland Street, 6th floor, Boston, MA 02114-2792.
