Leonid Dabuzhsky, affectionately known to friends and family as Lenny, formerly of Brookline, entered into rest on September 24, 2019 at the age of 67. Beloved son of Lidya and the late Valentin Dabuzhsky. Loving companion of Alla Subach and her son, Andrew, whom he cared for as his own. Devoted father of Sophie and Edward Dabuzhsky whom he raised in Newton, together with Esfira Dabuzhsky. Cherished grandfather of Daniel, Ada, and Naomi Dabuzhsky. Dear father-in-law to Alison Dabuzhsky.
Lenny was adored by his friends, colleagues, and patients. As a skilled and innovative orthopedic surgeon for over forty years, he pioneered the use of robotic assisted surgery in New England and aided medical device companies in the design of many cutting edge orthopedic technologies and procedures. Lenny was a great lover of life and enjoyed a myriad of hobbies and athletic pursuits. Among other things, he was an avid baker, cook, beer brewer, scuba diver (achieving dive master certification), skier, motorcycle rider, traveler, storyteller, licensed boat captain and fisherman. A competitive water polo player in his youth back in Russia, through his forties, fifties and sixties he completed nine marathons, a half iron-man and a 100 mile bike race, to name just a few of his many athletic achievements later in life. Most important to Lenny, however, were his close family and friends, for whom he always had endless time and attention, no matter the circumstance.
Lenny found peace at his second home in Campton, New Hampshire where he enjoyed skiing at Waterville Valley and boating and fishing on Squam Lake. He was happiest in the company of those he loved, especially when seated around a table sharing great food and laughter.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 27 at 10:00 AM at Temple Beth Elohim, 10 Bethel Road, Wellesley, MA 02481. Interment to follow at Puritan-Mt. Sinai Cemetery, 776 Baker Street, West Roxbury, MA 02132.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in Lenny's memory may be donated to the Squam Lakes Association at https://www.squamlakes.org/, which helps sustain and support the place where he found so much peace and joy over the years.
