I send my sincerest condolences to Les' family. I met him many years ago through our mutual work in public health focused on injury prevention. He was a wonderful person, a great story-teller, and unmatched in his recollection and collection of injury-related history. I was so sorry to hear of Les's passing. I met him in the early 2000s, when I was a public health student. He was especially nurturing as a seasoned injury and violence prevention professional, offering advice and guidance, always through a 'historical' lens. We stayed in touch over the years and sometimes I would get to help him with formatting his historical archives or converting them to pdfs. In 2020, Les sent me multiple boxes of his injury and violence prevention archives, which I've catalogued and will make sure remain available to the field. That year, the injury section of the American Public Health Association presented Les with our Public Service Award, for his years of dedication to the field and to maintaining its records. We had the good fortune of being able to present the award to him virtually that year, and I think he 'felt the love.' I wish Audrey, his kids, and the rest of his family much comfort. He was a wonderful person who was kind and nurturing and dedicated to making the world a better place. He will be missed.

We remember a trip we took with Les, Audrey, Michelle, and Larry along with our kids to Lake George.  At one point Les took the 4 kids out on a boat and as he paddled the boat he sang "Minnie HaHa Horowitz"  over and over.  We don't remember what prompted it but,  obviously it was memorable after over 45 years.

Les was a wonderful colleague who recorded the history of the Injury Section of American Public Health Association and by so doing left a history of the entire field of injury prevention for posterity.  Les was  pioneer in the field and willingly shared his knowledge and expertise with all of us.  It was an honor to know him.  I am grateful to have known him.

I knew Les through injury prevention work. He became the archivist for our section of the American Public Health Association, first unofficially, and then officially. Les contributed many essays to the section newsletter, providing historical examples of effective advocacy for safer motor vehicles, bicycle helmet laws, poison control, and many other ways to prevent injuries and protect children. May his memory be a blessing.

Les was a great contributor to the injury control community.  I feel privileged to have known him as a distant colleague and was pleased to be able to record an interview with him about a year ago as he reflected on his career and life more broadly.  He was a caring and talented man who will be missed by many.  But, I am confident that the memory of his many contributions will live on.

Sorry to hear of the passing of Les.  He was well known in the public health arena and for his early work on poison prevention and consumer product safety. In 1980, when I began work at the MA Dept of Public Health initiating and directing a child injury prevention program, data gathering and research, he came and was very helpful to our program, especially on the evaluation side. For many years he was an active member of the Injury and Emergency Health Services Section of the American Public Health Association.

Know that Les was thought of as a friendly, kind and nice person.

We met at TI’s Young Couples Club and became close friends. We watched our children grow up. Our families shared simchas, Holidays and doing things together. Our children have fond memories of those times.

Know that when we think of Les, we will have smiles on our faces.

When my dad passed away in October 2015, Les was one of the regulars at the minyan at Temple Israel in Albany who took me under his wing, made sure I knew where we were in the service and generally made me feel very welcome. A really nice man. May his memory be a blessing.
