Linda Elaine (Gibbs) Cohen of Concord Massachusetts entered into rest on February 14, 2026 at the age of 80. Beloved wife of Milton Perry Cohen. Devoted mother of Daniel Fairfield Cohen. Loving mother-in-law of Denise (Rampling) Cohen. Cherished Grandmother of Madison Emily Isabel Cohen, Jakob William Cohen, and Emma Elizabeth Cohen. Loving sister of Janice (Gibbs) Hall. Dear daughter of Jay Gibbs and Elizabeth (Fairfield) Gibbs.
She grew up in Acton Massachusetts, graduated from Acton-Boxborough High School, went on to Lasell Junior College and Boston University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Art History, and then raised her family in Hull Massachusetts. She spent her early married life raising her son and running the household, but was still able to realize her dream career. Always an avid reader, after volunteering at a local school, she realized that she was born to be a librarian. Despite the demands of child raising, she returned to Simmons College and earned her Masters Degree in Library Science, and went on to a very successful career in the Thomas Crane Public Library system of Quincy Massachusetts. There she proved that, when it came to books, there was nothing she couldn’t do: running multiple branches, spearheading the beloved “Children’s Story Hour,” and even taking a leadership role in the librarian union. She loved so many things: reading, knitting, movies, comedy, traveling, tending to her garden, but most of all she loved watching her 3 grandchildren grow up, who affectionately call her “Bumpy” (when the oldest first attempted to say Grammy and Grampy, only “Bumpy” came out, and it stuck). Throughout their childhood, Bumpy was always eager and available to babysit at a moment’s notice; she was the one and only babysitter they ever knew. She so cherished her time with her family and friends.
A funeral service for Linda will be held on Thursday February 19th at 1pm at Stanetsky Memorial Chapel in Canton Massachusetts with interment at Sharon Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in her memory to the Newbury Court Scholarship Fund.
