ADLER, Lloyd M., 96, of Newton, died peacefully at his residence surrounded by his adoring family. Born in Newark, NJ, he was son of the late Max and Jean Adler. Lloyd graduated from West Side High School in 1939 and Montclair State Teachers College in 1943. He was an army veteran, serving in WWII. Lloyd married Rose Berger in 1948 and they began their life together. He was a gifted educator, working for almost 50 years as a social studies teacher and guidance counselor in Newark, NJ; he also taught Americanization, French and Hebrew history. Lloyd was an early organizer and ardent supporter of the Newark Teachers Union, and an enthusiastic trumpet player. After his retirement, he moved to Massachusetts to live closer to his grandchildren. Lloyd is survived by Rose, his wife of 70 years; his daughter Joan Adler and her husband David Dietrich of Ithaca, NY; his son Sam Adler of Brooklyn, NY; and his daughter Melanie Adler and her husband Andy Cohen of Newton. His grandchildren Avi, Gabe and Eli Adler-Cohen also survive him. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service on Sunday, March 18, 2018, at 1:30 p.m. at Stanetsky Memorial Chapels, 1668 Beacon Street, Brookline.
