

Martin B. Silverman passed away at the age of 90 on August 23, 2026. He is survived by his spouse of 52 years, his sister-in-law, his nephew, three nieces, and two grand-nieces.
Martin earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and a PhD in Science Education from Columbia University. He was a devoted junior high and high school teacher in both the United States and Korea and also conducted medical research at New York University. Marty was a member of both Mensa International and The Explorer Club.
He enjoyed art, baking and cooking, gardening, classical and ethnic music, and played several string instruments. He learned the Koto under Shin'ichi Yuize, a Japanese koto virtuoso, composer, and educator. Marty also loved the natural world and traveling to off-the-beaten-path places around the world.
