
A highly respected and well-known psychologist and educator died on Thursday, April 24, 2025. He was 77 years old. Dr. Litchman was born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts, but had lived in central Bucks County (suburban Philadelphia) Pennsylvania from 1977 until 2020, after which he returned to live in Brookline, Massachusetts and later Boston, Massachusetts.
A graduate of the Boston Latin School, Dr. Litchman received his Bachelor's degree in psychology from Michigan State University, his Master's degree in clinical psychology from St. John's University, and his Doctorate from the University at Buffalo, State University of New York. He was a licensed psychologist in New Jersey and Pennsylvania for several decades and a certified school psychologist in New Jersey. His private practice specialized in problems of childhood and adolescence, most notably high functioning autism. He also devoted 20 years teaching in higher education. For seven years, he was an Adjunct Associate Professor at Rider University in Lawrenceville, NJ where he taught a variety of psychology courses. In 2002 he received an academic appointment at Princeton University, where he remained for the next 13 years. Dr. Litchman was a member of the American Psychological Association, the New Jersey Psychological Association, a Fellow in the Pennsylvania Psychological Association, and a member of the Philadelphia Society of Clinical Psychologists. He belonged to the American Association of University Professors, and was also listed in the National Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology.
An avid traveler, he made an avocation of studying the cultures and the people of many countries. In 2007 he purchased a home in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and spent many enjoyable winters there and traveled throughout the continent.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Sandra, his father, Harold and his mother, Dora.
Services will be held at Levine Chapels, 470 Harvard Street, Brookline, MA on Wednesday, April 30, 2025 at 9:00 AM and he will be laid to rest at Agudath Israel, 776 Baker Street, West Roxbury, MA.
