Michael Allan Lourie

Michael Allan Lourie of Hopedale, MA, passed away at the age of 81, on Friday, August 21st, 2026.

Michael is predeceased by his late parents, Harry and Helen (Zack) Lourie. For 53 years, he was the beloved husband to Blanche (Laff) Lourie. Loving father to daughter Heather Laina Lourie and her fiancé David Libbey, and son Jonathan Joshua Lourie. Adored brother to Margery Hemenway and her husband William of West Wareham, and their son Jamie Hemenway and his wife Beth, as well as their daughter Jessica Jaxon and her wife Jane. Beloved cousin to Arthur Krupnick of Hyannis, cousin Sarah Zack, her daughter Avery, and her partner, and cousin Joe Zack, his wife Carrie Ann, and their daughter Rollins. As well as several other cousins.

After meeting Blanche at a singles dance in the fall of 1971 at Temple Emanuel of Newton, MA, they dated for a year, frequently double dating with Michael's dear friend, Dr. David Keller, and his then soon-to-be wife, Jane. Michael and Blanche were married on December 30th, 1972.

He served in the US Army from 1965 to 1968, and from 1965 to 1966 was a member of the 196th Infantry Division while serving in Vietnam. He loved his country and was immensely proud to have served. He would always tell people, “I would do it again if I weren’t 81!”

Michael was also employed by the United States Postal Service as a letter carrier for 36 years, with most of his time having delivered mail to the residents of West Roxbury. He also served on the board of directors for Temple Beth Shalom of Milford for many years.

In his free time, he enjoyed splitting and selling firewood to those who needed it. Michael and Blanche also operated a craft show business called “The Lace Man” for over 35 years, visiting many shows throughout the New England region.

A graveside service will be held at the Koretz Cemetery, 776 Baker Street, West Roxbury, MA, on Monday, August 24, 2026 at 1:00 PM.

Shiva will be held at the home of Blanche and Michael immediately following the service until 8:00 PM, with Minyan at 6:00 PM, and will continue on Tuesday from 4:00-8:00 PM with Minyan at 6:00 PM.
