Mildred “Millie” Cohen, 93, of Needham, MA, passed away peacefully on November 1, 2023. Millie was born on September 8, 1930, to Pearl and Joseph Blum in Brooklyn, NY. She moved to Dorchester, MA when she was 15 years old and later graduated from the Jeremiah E. Burke High School Business program in 1948 at the top of her class. Millie was the beloved wife of Melvin W. Cohen for 48 years prior to his passing in 2006.
She is survived by her beloved children: Joseph Cohen and his wife Robin, Alan Cohen and his wife Martha, and Margie Sockol and her husband Jim; her cherished grandchildren: Jeremy and Sydney Cohen, William and Matthew Cohen, and Ben, Brian and Danielle Sockol; her loving sister, Estelle Silverman, her niece Randi Zifrony, her nephew Steven Silverman, and several great-nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Leon Blum.
While raising her children, Millie worked as a bookkeeper until retirement. She loved playing bridge, baking, reading, traveling and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
The family will welcome visitors at their residence in Needham on Saturday, from 2-5pm.
Services will be held at Temple Beth Shalom, 670 Highland Ave., NEEDHAM, MA on SUNDAY, November 5, 2023 at 12:30pm. Burial immediately following at Sharon Memorial Park, 40 Dedham St., SHARON, MA. Shiva will be observed at the family home in Needham following interment until 9:00pm.
