

Miriam Ann Leavitt (née Waldstein), 86, long-time Newton resident, recently of Dedham, passed away on December 24th following a long illness. Miriam is survived by her three children, Michael Leavitt (Howard Matz), Karen Leavitt (Jay Zager), and Lauren Leavitt; her grandchildren, Elissa Schnelwar (Neil), David Zager (Roxzan), Sam Zager, Tad Leavitt, and Max Leavitt; and great-grandchildren Zac, Alex, Evan, and Olivia. She is also survived by her nieces Dana Brenner (Craig) and Wendy Canty, nephew Jeffrey Keselman (Sarah), and grand-nieces/-nephews Carli, Jake, Emily, Josh, and Hannah. Miriam was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Peter; parents Pearl and Edward Waldstein; and her sister and brother-in-law, Bobbi and Frank Keselman; and her beloved grandson Dan Zager.
Miriam graduated from Brookline High School and Brandeis University, and was a lifelong member of the Brandeis University National Women's Committee.
Miriam was an avid world traveler and enjoyed exploring different cultures, cuisines, and music. She loved the sun, and was happiest sitting on a beach. She was devoted to the many Siberian Huskies that she raised, bred, and showed over the years.
A graveside service will be held at Sharon Memorial Park, 40 Dedham Street, Sharon at 11:45AM on Wednesday, December 27th. A memorial observance will be announced at the service.
