From CONGREGATION MISHKAN TEFILA:
We are deeply saddened to announce the death of our dear friend, Ron Sieve, who passed away suddenly this past Thursday, February 23th. Below is a reprint of an article written recently about Ron, informing us of his devotion to our community and his singular spirit of volunteerism.
On the bimah, in the chapel, in the CMT kitchen -- Ron Sieve helped out every week at Mishkan Tefila. Ron was a volunteer extraordinaire for our congregation for over 25 years, and said often that he enjoyed every minute of it.
Ron was a third generation CMT member; his father’s parents joined in 1923 after emigrating from Russia. His parents, Jack and Irene Sieve, were great role models for him, having served as Mishkan Tefila Brotherhood and Sisterhood Presidents along with other leadership positions in the Jewish community. Ron and his sister Laurie joined the CMT community when they were born, and Ron filled many roles for the congregation over the years.
As a Head Usher on both Shabbat and the High Holidays, Ron was both a visible and integral part of our services, helping them to run smoothly and on time. He was very active in Brotherhood, lending a hand in building many, many sukkot and heading up the Brotherhood Kitchen Committee for countless breakfasts. Ron was also a “minyannaire” – participating in minyan every Sunday morning. In honor of his father, Ron read the haftorah “Devarim” every year as his father did; this year, he chanted the haftorah on August 6th.
Professionally, Ron devoted over 34 years to National Lumber, starting as a mechanic, then working as a foreman, shipper and most recently as a fleet manager. Ron’s relationship with Lou Kaitz z”l, CMT Past President and founder of National Lumber, was very close. In fact, Ron felt that Lou took him in after his father Jack passed away and acted like a father to him. Many years ago, Brotherhood honored Ron with the “Man of the Year” award and Lou spoke about Ron – or as he called him – “Ronnie” to the guests. Lou said:
“We can ask him to usher on the high holidays and on Shabbat. Never do you hear from Ronnie a whimper or an objection. Whatever is good for the temple is good enough for him to do. I don’t think I have ever met anyone exactly like Ronnie; he has those characteristics that every parent wants for their own children.”
Ron said that he looked forward to every weekend at CMT; it was his “outlet” from work. He enjoyed working here and made a lot of friends in the congregation. We will always be grateful that Ron Sieve was a part of our family, and we will all miss him greatly in the years to come.
