
S. Nancy Black Simches, aged 92, of Chestnut Hill and Osterville passed away on August 3, 2026, surrounded by her loved ones.
Nancy was the dear daughter of the late Emma and Thomas Black of Boston. Cherished mother of Lorri Owades (Gordon) and Sherri Mahne. Adored grandmother of Justin Owades (Gail Friedland), Mackenzie Owades (Mike Keene), and Jeremy Scott Owades (Julia Hankin), and Thomas Mahne. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 47 years, Richard Simches; and precious daughter, Joanne Simches. Nancy also leaves behind several loving friends whom she treasured.
Nancy graduated from Brookline High and went on to received her Master’s in education and social work from Northeastern University.
Nancy met and married her beloved husband Richard Simches. They moved to Wellesley, where they raised their three daughters.
She served as a dedicated geriatric social worker until her retirement. After her retirement, Nancy continued to serve in a volunteer capacity. In 1979, Nancy and Dick together founded Safety Insurance Company.
A legacy of philanthropy, the Simches name is synonymous with generosity – giving back to the community – and helping those in need. Supporting medical research, adolescent mental health, and the State of Israel are her particular passions. Mass General Brigham, McLean, Dana Farber, Jewish National Fund, Friends of Israel Defense Forces, Combined Jewish Philanthropies, and a plethora of other organizations, large and small, are among the recipients of Simches family grants, endowments and contributions.
A funeral service will be held at Temple Beth Elohim, 10 Bethel Rd, Wellesley, MA at 12:00pm on Wednesday, August 5, 2026. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Joanne B. Simches Endowment Fund at Dana Farber or the charity of your choice.
