
Sadie Drucker Malkoff, beloved mother of Merle Bombardieri, mother-in-law of Rocco Bombardieri, died on May 31st after fourteen years of illness. She was the grandmother of Marcella and Vanessa Bombardieri. She is survived by a son, Alan, her daughter-in-law Ann Malkoff and two grandsons, Mark Malkoff and David Malkoff. She was born in 1921, the youngest of four children to Russian Jewish immigrants in Chicago. She married Sol Malkoff, a printer and typographer in 1941. The couple raised their family in Atlanta and New York. The couple also lived in Albany and Tampa, and retired in Orlando. Her husband Sol passed away in 2001.
Sadie worked as a proofreader when her children were older, and was dedicated to volunteer work and to reading. A passionate scholar of social justice, she founded a Zionist organization, Pioneer Women in Atlanta and was active in the Atlanta Council of Jewish Women. In Orlando, during retirement, she was actively involved in Brandeis Women's Organization, especially in theatergoing and book clubs. With her children and grandchildren she shared her passion for books, theater, and social justice. She also shared with them her love for chocolate, baking pinwheel cookies, and celebrating special occasions with ice cream for breakfast.
A memorial service will be held at Congregation Beth EL, 105 Hudson Rd, Sudbury, MA on Monday, June 2nd at 10:30 AM. Interment will be in FL. Expressions of sympathy in her memory may be donated to either Mazon at mazon.org or to the Zionist Organization of America at zoa.org
