

Samuel J. Winston, of Newton, on Saturday, December 20, 2014. Born 90 years ago in Boston’s West End, for many years he was manager of the Saks Fifth Avenue Men’s Clothing Department in Boston and was a recipient of the Best of Boston Award in 1990. A life-long supporter of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, he was also an avid opera lover, attending performances in Boston and New York for over 50 years.
He was the beloved husband of Vera Minikis Winston who died in 1987 and is survived by his loving wife Barbara Wester Winston. He is also survived by his devoted daughters Ellen Fitzgerald and Faye Lundberg, their husbands Dennis Fitzgerald and Wayne Lundberg, and his grandchildren Jake Fitzgerald, Van Fitzgerald and Jessica Lundberg. He was dearly loved by Barbara’s children; Mark R. Wester, Susan Perez, Carrie DeLeon, and Michael D. Wester, their spouses and children.
Graveside services at Lindwood Memorial Park, 497 North St., Randolph, on Monday, December 22 at 11:00am. Memorial observance following the burial until 7pm at the home of Faye and Wayne Lundberg.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Boston Symphony Orchestra to continue the work he loved so much and which gave him so many happy hours.
