Living across the country in Oregon, I would joke with Shari, and she'd do the same with me saying, "Let's go out for dinner. I'll pick you up. When's your flight?" Often times I would stay with her when I was in Boston and she ALWAYS ensured that she had the items that I ate for breakfast stocked for my visit. She was such a thoughtful and giving hostess, always putting the needs of her guest first. She used to come to my mother's apartment and the three of us played cards for hours on end, sharing raucous laughter over memories that we had from times gone by. Even though we were separated by many miles, we spoke on the phone often. She probably knew me better than any individual other than my partner, Bill. She was my confidant and I was hers. She was like a dear sister to me. I had known her since the early 90s, when we worked together in the nursing field, and we instantly clicked. I have lost not only a dear friend, but part of me as well.
