

Stanley Berman died peacefully on August 20, 2024, in Brighton, MA. He was 104. Stanley was born and grew up in Dorchester before moving to Framingham, MA where he lived with his wife, Anita, who preceded him in death.
When America entered World War II, he enlisted in the Coast Guard, and saw action in the South Pacific on USS LST {Landing Ship, Tank} 763. He earned two battle stars, one for Iwo Jima where he saw the iconic flag being raised on Mt. Suribachi, and one for Okinawa. He was among the first Americans to go ashore in Japan after it surrendered. Despite the surrender, US warships entered Japanese waters on high alert, and he was told to carry his sidearm with him when he was ashore.
After receiving an honorable discharge, he worked as a real estate broker. He was a founder of the early morning minyan on Shabbats at Temple Beth Sholom in Framingham. He was an avid international traveler, visiting countries around the world.
Stanley is survived by his two daughters, Judith Berman of Chicago, Paula Berman and her husband Robert Stolzberg of Brookline, and his grandson, Joshua Berman of Framingham. His funeral service will be held at Temple Beth Sholom, 50 Pamela Road, Framingham at 11:30 AM Friday August 23. Interment will follow at the Framingham-Natick Jewish Cemetery, 40 Fairview Avenue, Natick. The family will be sitting shiva at the family home in Framingham on Friday, from 2:30 to 5:30 and at Paula’s home in Brookline on Sunday from 2:30 to 5:30. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.
