Dr. Stanley Manaster Cole, age 76 passed away September 18, 2023 at 3:00 am at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, where he had a kidney transplant over 49 years ago given to him by his beloved older brother, Dr. Elliot Cole. A graduate of Harvard University, Stan went to UNC Chapel Hill for residency and licensure in Neurology (where he played on the bowling team, the “Borderline Splits”) and then went to Tufts Medical School to receive his training and licensure in Psychiatry. After practicing at Harvard Vanguard in Braintree, Stan worked in group practices and for the last 20 years has been in private practice. Stan is known for his incredible devotion to his patients, his dry wit, his love and aptitude for learning languages, bridge, chess, playing the guitar and piano; his friendships, his curiosity for anything he didn’t know, and especially for his love and caring for his family. He is survived by and will be indescribably missed by his wife of 40 years, Randy Garber, his daughter Rachel Garber Cole and her spouse, Jordan Levie; his son, Scott Garber Cole and his wife, Alison Kase. And of all the recent blessings he enjoyed, his three grandsons—all under 3 ½ years: Scott and Ali’s children, Levi Joshua Kase-Cole, Isaac Orion Kase-Cole and Rachel and Jordan’s son, Erwin Louis Levie-Cole.
Funeral services will be held at Sharon Memorial Cemetery Chapel (40 Dedham Street, Sharon MA 02067) at 10am on Thursday September 21. Shiva will be at Stanley and Randy’s residence (32 Clifton St. Apt. 2 Somerville, MA 02144); Thursday 1-6pm, Friday 4-7pm, Saturday 4-7pm.
