Susan Dona (Casey) Baran
Susan D. Baran, age 59, a lifelong resident of Fairfield County Connecticut, passed away on May 2nd, 2021. Susan was born on April 1, 1962 in New York City and moved to Westport at age 8. She attended Coleytown Middle School and graduated from Staples High School in 1980 where she was a member of the tennis and field hockey teams and also enjoyed playing the trumpet.
As a youngster Susan enjoyed summers in Pepperell, MA and winters in Keene, NH with her relatives the Crocker’s. Growing up Susan was always side by side with her sister Debra, who passed away in 2017 and also took great joy in helping her mother take care of her younger brother.
Susan graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Syracuse University in 1983 and loved to watch football games in the Carrier Dome. She earned her JD from the University of Bridgeport School of Law in 1990. Susan was recognized by the University of Bridgeport as a distinguished alumni in 2003 and later served for four years as an adjunct professor at the school.
Susan was admitted to practice law in the state of Connecticut in 1991 and was later appointed as a Connecticut Family Support Court Magistrate in 2002. Susan served on the bench for 6 years in addition to being a private attorney for 30 years.
A true lover of the arts, Susan was avid dancer and loved the theater. She traveled to Manhattan to visit her Grandmother Annie often as well as to attend plays and take dance classes in her teenage years. In addition to being an avid reader, Susan loved animals and nature and enjoyed hiking and taking her family to the beach to enjoy the sunshine and laughter. Susan’s sense of humor was infectious, and her smile was always present.
Susan raised two sons in Fairfield and will be remembered for her incredible motherhood and enthusiastic presence at all of their activities and events. Her two boys were the absolute love of her life and she cherished taking photos of them to document all the great trips and family memories.
Susan is survived by her two beloved sons that were the light of her life, Douglas Baran and Jack Baran of Fairfield, Connecticut, her mother Zita Casey of Westport, Connecticut and her brother London Fields and his wife Laura of Carlsbad, California, in addition to a group of close friends.
