
For 49 years she was the beloved wife of the late Edward H. Simon. Loving mother of Donald & Susana Simon of Burke, VA., Gary Simon, and Margo & Neil Golden of Boston. Cherished grandmother of Elena and Eva Simon, Andrew and Craig Golden. Devoted sister of the late Ellen Knopf, and Inge Meyer. Dear aunt of many nieces & nephews.
Services at Temple Emanuel, 7 Haggetts Pond Road, Andover on Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. Following the burial at Temple Emanuel of Andover Cemetery,192 Mt. Vernon Street, Lawrence, memorial observance (shiva) will be at Temple Emanuel through 3:00 p.m on Tuesday only.
Susan was born in Hamborn, Germany near Duisburg to the late Arthur and Ricka (Jakobs) Heymann, she emigrated to Boston with her family in June 1941. The family had been in hiding for a few years when they obtained passage on the steamship Villa de Madrid which sailed from Barcelona to Gibraltar to the Canary Islands and finally Ellis Island. Before being allowed to board the Villa de Madrid, the family had their citizenship revoked by the German government and the obligatory middle name "Sarah" was added to Susan's passport. Germany had closed its borders to any further emigration six months after the family was able to leave. Susan married Edward Harvey Simon on June 29, 1949 and lived happily in Lawrence, Methuen, and thirty five years in Andover.
Sue was a loving mother, grandmother, aunt and assisted her husband Edward with the ownership of Simon's Department Stores and ABCO Realty, she also served as Chairperson of the United Jewish Appeal, and was a golf enthusiast.
