Alice Britt

February 20, 1922June 29, 2019

Alice (Carstens) Britt, 97, of Brooklyn, New York passed away peacefully on June 29, 2019 at home with her family. She was born February 20, 1922, in Copenhagen, Denmark. A woman of many talents; she danced, played piano and tennis, rode horses and also had facility with art and languages. As her family grew she was known for a formidable stamp collection and just as formidable green thumb. She enjoyed reading, games of skill and charitable work; notably working with Lutheran Charities for much of her career. She was the beloved daughter of Holger and Elizabeth (Darre) Carstens. Alice is survived by children Linda, Michael, Lawrence, Eric and Kristina; and grandchildren Dana, Buffy, Michael, Bryan, Ryan, Kelsey and James. A favorite poem of hers is by the Danish poet Piet Hein and we think it describes her fierce independence well: “Lille kat, Lille kat, Lille kat på vejen! Hvis er du? Hvis er du? – jeg er sgu min egen.” “Kitty cat, kitty cat, walking all alone! Whose are you? Whose are you? - No one’s; I’m my own.” Memorial service will be on Friday, July 5, 2019, 4-8pm at Duffy Funeral Home, 255 9th Street, Brooklyn, NY 11215. Interment at Greenwood Cemetery. Flowers may be ordered from Floral Fantasy of Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, NY 11209, 718-238-6978. Memorial contributions may be made to Lutheran Social Services here https://lssny.networkforgood.com/projects/18991-lutheran-social-services-of-ny-donation-page
