Alice B. Casey
Manhattan, New York | Originally from Dublin, Ireland
It is with great sadness that the family of Alice B. Casey, age 77, announces her passing on September 1, 2026, in Manhattan, New York.
Born in Dublin, Ireland, Alice departed Ireland for the United States and ultimately made Manhattan her home, where she became a familiar and much-loved presence in her community. While Alice embraced her life in America, she never forgot where she came from. When she left Ireland, she left a piece of herself behind, and throughout her life she remained deeply connected to her Irish roots, her family, and the place she first called home.
Service to others was at the heart of who Alice was. She was an active member of her community and a dedicated volunteer at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Manhattan, generously giving her time and energy to the parish and those around her. To her friends, Alice was a pillar of strength—a loyal, dependable, and caring person who could always be counted on through both good times and difficult ones.
Alice also developed a very special relationship with the men and women of the NYPD’s 19th Precinct. She became a familiar and welcome presence at the precinct, often arriving with cookies, treats, and something to brighten the officers’ day. It was a simple gesture that said a great deal about Alice. She noticed people, appreciated them, and found genuine happiness in doing something kind for others without expecting anything in return.
Alice treasured the many summers she spent in Spring Lake, New Jersey, a place that brought her great enjoyment and many fond memories over the years.
While Alice had no children of her own, she was a beloved sister and aunt and was surrounded by a large extended family whom she loved dearly. She held the special honour of being Godmother to her nephew, Derek Casey, and her niece, Colleen Lacks, relationships she cherished throughout her life.
Alice is survived by her brother Thomas (Helene) of Calgary, Alberta, her sister Joan (Jerry) of Boston, Massachusetts, and her sister Jean (Seamus) of Navan, County Meath, Ireland, as well as her many cherished nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Alice will be especially missed by her dear and longtime friend, Mary Cummings. Their friendship was one of great warmth, loyalty, and companionship, built over many years of shared memories, laughter, and simply being there for one another. Mary held a very special place in Alice’s life and heart, and their enduring friendship was a true source of comfort and happiness to Alice throughout the years.
Alice was predeceased by her beloved parents, Bernard and Margaret Casey of Dublin, Ireland; her brother Brian (Ann) of Dublin, Ireland; her sister Mary (John) of Dublin, Ireland; her brother Patrick (Bernadette) of Dublin, Ireland; her sister Peggy of Brooklyn, New York; and her former husband, Mark McInerney.
She was also predeceased by her beloved dog, Muldoon, her faithful companion who held an especially important place in her heart.
From Dublin to Manhattan, from summers in Spring Lake to the community she served so faithfully in New York, Alice built a life defined by family, friendship, faith, generosity, and service to others. She will be remembered not simply for the life she lived, but for the countless acts of kindness she extended to those around her.
Her presence will be deeply missed by her family, her friends, her church community, her neighbors, and the many people whose lives were made a little brighter because Alice was part of them. Although America became her home, Ireland was never far from her heart. The piece of herself she left behind there all those years ago will now forever remain part of her legacy.
Her family takes comfort in knowing that the kindness Alice gave so freely throughout her life will continue to be remembered by all those fortunate enough to have known her.

The Lake Isle of Innisfree
W. B. Yeats
I will arise and go now, and go to Innisfree, And a small cabin build there, of clay and wattles made: Nine bean-rows will I have there, a hive for the honey-bee, And live alone in the bee-loud glade.
And I shall have some peace there, for peace comes dropping slow, Dropping from the veils of the morning to where the cricket sings; There midnight’s all a glimmer, and noon a purple glow, And evening full of the linnet’s wings.
I will arise and go now, for always night and day I hear lake water lapping with low sounds by the shore; While I stand on the roadway, or on the pavements grey, I hear it in the deep heart’s core.
