It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Andres Torrens, age 89, of Brooklyn, New York, who passed away on Monday, January 24, 2022. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Theresa, two sisters, Gladys and Mirta, two brothers, Oreste and Felito and two children: Andres Jr. (and Chad) Torrens, and William (and Diamira) Torrens. Other survivors include his grandchildren, Vanessa (and John) Neimi, Evan Torrens, Sabrina (and Connor) Reilly, and Ryan Torrens. He did not leave this world before meeting his great-grandchild, Kieran, son to Sabrina and Connor.
Andres was born in Havana Cuba and grew up in a loving home alongside his parents and seven siblings, Nelson, Mirta, Noelio, Gladys, Felito, Oreste and Hector. He migrated to the United States but never forgot his roots or his family back home in Cuba. He established himself in the United States and always worked hard to support himself and his family. In time, he met and married his wife Theresa, made their home in Brooklyn, New York, and they remained married until his passing.
Andres, Jr. and William remember their dad as extremely hard working and as a man who always provided for his family. When he migrated to the US, he found a job in a factory making Matza, and then landed a job mixing chemicals for a large plastics company where he worked until he retired. Andres and his wife Theresa always taught their children many values some of which included the value of education, hard work, and the value of “family first”. These values live on in his children, and grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at the Joseph G. Duffy Funeral Home, 255 Ninth Street, Brooklyn, NY 11215. A one-day visitation will take place on Saturday, January 29 from 2pm to 5pm. In lieu of gifts or flowers, the family of Andres Torrens is asking that donations be made to the Arthritis Foundation in his name. arthritis.org/donate
