To The Gugick Family - For the better part of the last 10 years, I have worked with and developed a friendship with Art.  He was always there with a smile, a joke, intelligence, willingness to help and simply kindness.  I'll miss him.  I was lucky to have had Art as a friend and colleague.  It's not going to be the same without him.

My deepest sympathy. I was a student of Mr. Gugick's in middle and high school math class. He was the only math teacher I ever had who believed in me and helped me to really learn a subject in which I used to struggle. I remember his amazing Lego creations and him bringing in his guitar to play during class. He and my mother used to discuss physics -- that always made her parent-teacher conference. He made math so much fun and something I looked forward to. He will truly be missed.

I am so glad I had an opportunity to get to know Art Gugick.  What a wonderfully unique individual.  Art was one of kind!  I'll miss his dry sense of humor.  My thoughts and prayers go out to his family & friends during this difficult time.  

It seems just yesterday we shared a celebration of your dad's life in Florida. You were a true artist and a great teacher. You got it! You reached many students who others could not.  So sad for your mom. she has lost so much in these last 5 years. May you  , your brother and father be together  where ever you are. May you make for them both a Lego Land of Heaven.

It was a privillege to  teach with you...........you always helped to make my special ed kids to learn math!  You were wonderful!


We had the pleasure of being neighbors with the Gugick family for a little more than 5 years. Mr. Gugick was the biggest teacher celebrity of my friends, and I remember the laughs and discussions he would have with us when they would randomly come over and visit his residence. His creations were incredible, and gave some light to just how big of an imagination he truly had. 

On behalf of the Resnick Family, your former neighbors, we give our deepest condolences. 

Mr.Gugick was my math teacher this year. For my entire life, I struggled immensely with mathematics, but Mr.Gugick changed my mindset entirely. I now love math—and am quite good at it—because of him. He was such an interesting, curious person. I still have so many questions for him, eager for his unique and thought provoking answer. So much intelligence really showed through him, even with a dry demeanor like his. I suffer from GAD and a depressive disorder. In a meeting to discuss my dwindling academics, he asked me a question that I’ve waited my entire life to be asked, “How does it feel to be you?” And I broke into tears. Nobody had ever asked me something like that before, and from then on I trusted him eternally. It is so heart wrenching that this is how he had to pass, as I always wondered what other endeavors he had in store for the future. All of his students are so blessed and thankful for his words, teachings, and genuine care. 

I send all my love and support to his family and friends who also grieve his passing.
