Carmela “Millie” Rose DeCarlo, 94, called peacefully to eternal life at 9:41 a.m. on November 29, 2012 in Brooklyn, New York. Millie was born on August 11, 1918, in Albany, New York, the daughter of Laura and Jacamo Colello. She now joins in heaven her parents; sisters, Mary Colello, Angelina Gully; brother, Harry Colello, son, James DeCarlo; daughter, Linda Mammone; and husband, Phillip DeCarlo.
In 1944, Millie married the love of her life Phillip L. DeCarlo. They were blessed with four beautiful children who she raised in their home in Brooklyn.
Millie found such joy in writing letters, talking on the phone, being active in her church and spending time with her loved ones. She never missed a meal or a chance to be together with family and friends. Even in her 90’s she still had the sharpest memory and could recall dates and events from 80 years ago. Millie lit up a room with her sweet smile. Everyone who met her fell instantly in love with her. She stood only 4’ 11” tall but had a gigantic heart of gold and a huge appetite for life. Her greatest joy in life was her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Millie is survived by her brother, Dominic Collelo; daughter, Shirley DeCarlo Helems; son, Kenneth DeCarlo; grandchildren, Rita Turok, Lisa Castillo, Michael Mammone Jr., and Christopher Mammone; great grandchild, Natalie, Alison, Nicholas, Evan, Benjamin and Callie; and a number of other relatives and close family.
Reposing Sunday, 2-5 & 7-10 at the John J. Healey Funeral Home, 2005 West 6th Street, Brooklyn, NY. Funeral Mass to be celebrated on Monday, 11:00 am at Sts. Simon & Jude Roman Catholic Church. Interment to follow in St. Charles Cemetery, Brooklyn, NY. www.johnjhealeyfuneralhome.com
