Christine is the oldest child of Agnes McKinney Giangreco (d. 1978) and Ernest Giangreco (d. 1995). She was preceded in death by her younger brother and godson, Matthew (d. 2006). Christine is survived by her brother Paul Giangreco of Basking Ridge, New Jersey, his wife Lillie and their children: Karen, her goddaughter, Michael, Diane, Pamela and William; Christine is also survived by her sister Clare of East Brunswick, New Jersey, and by her roommate of 35 years, Carol Stone.
Christine attended Our Lady of Angels School and was a member of the Pioneer Class (1965) at Bishop Kearney High School in Brooklyn. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from St. Joseph's College in Brooklyn in 1969; she studied for one year at the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) in Bologna, Italy, and completed her Master's at the SAIS center in Washington, DC.
Her professional career included international lending at Marine Midland Bank and Scandinavian-owned Nordic American Banking Corporation, and international asset management at American International Group, all in New York. She ran her own export management company for a time, marketing children's clothes in the Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland. More recently, she has used her banking and finance skills to help manage the business affairs of an early-childhood learning center and administer grants at Catholic Charities of Brooklyn and Queens.
Christine has always been active and faithful in Church. She has been a Eucharistic Minister and Lector at the Oratory Church of St. Boniface in Brooklyn and at St. Rosalie's Church in Hampton Bays, New York, where she and Carol own a house. At St. Boniface, she was famous for the St. Joseph's Day Coffee Hour event, celebrating her Italian heritage and that of many others in that parish.
An easy description of Chris's way of life is the reaction of a custodian at another church building in her neighborhood; he broke down and cried at hearing of her passing. "She was the first person who treated me right, like I counted, all the time."
Family will receive friends on Friday October 9, 2015 from 2 – 5 and 7 – 9 pm at Joseph G. Duffy Funeral Home, 255 9th Street, Brooklyn. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 9:30 am at the Oratory of St. Boniface Church, 109 Willoughby Street, Brooklyn. Entombment to follow at St. John’s Cemetery, Middle Village, Queens, NY.
