Doris Diana Dawes was born on October 12, 1927 in the Parish of Trelawny, Jamaica to Mabel and William Dawes. Doris was one of ten children. She moved to Kingston, the capital city of Jamaica, where she worked as a seamstress. In the early 70’s, Doris migrated to the United States and settled in the New York City Borough of Brooklyn. She settled there with her sister Winnifred and began building a life for herself and her teenage son. Doris found work as a home health aide while also pursuing seamstressing in her spare time. Doris eventually retired in the 1990’s and enjoyed a leisurely retirement until July 2014. She bought a home and moved to the sunny climates of Orlando, FL. She joined a local church, travelled, and continuing sewing, mostly for herself. Doris is survived by her son Leo and her brother Samuel as well as many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.
