Frederick J. Ranzoni Jr., born March 3, 1938, passed away on Monday, March 18, 2024 at the age of 86. Fred passed peacefully surrounded by his three best girls; his wife, Christine, and his daughters, Elizabeth and Anneliese while listening to his favorite folk songs.
Fred was born to mother, Libera Lamperti, and father, Frederick James Ranzoni Sr., in Barre Vermont and was their only child. He spent most of is early years in Connecticut exploring and developing his independent nature. Fred attended the University of Connecticut for college where he obtained his B.A. in Political Science. Soon after graduation, he entered the Army where he trained in military intelligence, it was there that his analytical mind was further bolstered. This training also lent itself to his life long career as an analyst for the NYC Department of Environmental Protection.
Fred and Chris just celebrated 50 years of marriage. They met as young NYC transplants working in social services. They have shared a long life together with many fond memories of raising a family in their chosen home city of Brooklyn. Together they have traveled widely and celebrated many milestones while also weathering storms along the way. The family often spent sun-soaked summers in Rhode Island, eventually adding a home there so they could split their time between their beloved Brooklyn and the beach.
Fred could often be seen with an Italian cigar in his mouth, puffing smoke and taking walks in the neighborhood, calling his cigars his "therapy." He had an innate sense of direction, so no one ever worried about getting lost on the family's long nature filled hikes. Fed had a keen intelligence and was a lifelong lover of learning. He was a history buff and a trivial pursuit master. He loved a good joke, the more complicated and crass the better. He also loved a good discussion that would frequently turn into a debate on wide ranging topics from history to politics to the best movies and music.
Fred was self-reliant, tough, and could be stubborn at times. He was also incredibly generous, especially when it came to his family and supporting them in any way he could. Fred will be warmly remembered by those who knew him for his independent spirit and for always marching to the beat of his own drum. He was greatly loved and will be dearly missed.
A celebration of life will be held with details to be determined.
