Beloved husband of 59 years to the love of his life, Ann Sammarco. Adored father of Nicole Infantolino and Melisa Farinacci and her husband Joe. Devoted grandfather to Jonathan Infantolino, Nicholas Farinacci, Joseph Infantolino, and Olivia Farinacci. Cherished by John Infantolino.
He was born March 13, 1943, in Brooklyn, NY, and he was an adored son of the late Gennaro and Geraldine Sammarco. He was predeceased by his dear siblings Joseph Sammarco, Carmella Sammarco, and Angelina Lambert. He was also predeceased by his parent in-laws Joseph and Nicoletta Gaeta, in-laws Joann and Rocco Privitera, Margaret Sammarco, and John Cappiello.
He is survived by his sister Edith Cappiello, sister and brother-in-law, Diana and Paul Auerbach and countless nieces and nephews.
Jerry proudly served his country in the United State Army for 2 years and the United States Army National Guard for 11 years.
Shortly after returning from the Army, Jerry joined the New York City Department of Sanitation. Jerry retired as a Three-Star Chief in the Operations Management Division after three decades of service in the city he loved.
Through determination and study, Jerry’s accomplished career included Investigator and Supervisor with DSNY Environmental Investigations Unit, Sanitation Worker, Foreman, District Superintendent and Borough Chief, among others.
Jerry will be forever missed and loved by all who knew him. He was a friend to all, always with advice to those who sought it, comfort to those who needed it, a smile to brighten your day, and endless conversations (and frustrations!) about the New York Rangers.
Whether you knew him as King of the High Bar, Happy-Handsome-Harpo, Junior, Butch, or Chief he would tell you that family comes first, don’t sweat the small stuff, work hard, give everything your all, and listen to the Rolling Stones.
