Jayne and I shared an apartment as Cornell students, which generated a lifetime of friendship. Her contribution to the field of Vietnamese studies will stand as her academic legacy, but at a personal level I remember her determination, her generous spirit and at the end, her fortitude. Charlie, Ben and all the family, I just wanted to say that Jayne will always have a very special place in my memory.

It is with great sadness that I learned of Jayne's passing. She has been an important scholar and friend to many working in the field of gender transformation in Vietnam. Her rich sociological analysis, methodological rigor and sense story-telling were foundational to the field. She will be missed. Kristy Kelly, WEAI, Columbia University
