Joan Ann Skiba
September 15, 1934 – April 17, 2021
Joan Ann Skiba died on April 17, 2021 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Joan was born on September 15, 1934 to John (Tony) and Catherine (McSorley) Rocchio in New York City. Joan grew up in Long Island City, New York with her two sisters Mary(Hayes) and Alice(Rose) and her brother Howard (Kelly). She spoke fondly of her childhood and maintained her childhood friendships throughout her life. Joan married her childhood sweetheart, John Mallon on September 21, 1952. They were married for 32 years, until John’s death. They raised their four children primarily in Suffern, NY. Joan worked in a variety of office support roles for more than 30 years. She had an exceptional work ethic but would have much preferred to have been independently wealthy and/or dancing. She was the epitome of style, was quick to smile and found humor in almost any situation. Joan loved to travel and experience other cultures through art. She taught her children to seek out people from all different walks of life, to be accepting of others and to always try to look at things from another person’s perspective. She stressed the importance of being responsible and loyal and while she experienced a fair amount of loss throughout her life, she made sure that joy and laughter were a part of every day. Joan is predeceased by her husband John Mallon, son John Mallon Jr., best friend and grand-dog Fred and her second husband Bernard Skiba. She is survived by her sons Steven Mallon, Scot Mallon, daughter Jacqueline Mallon (Rosana), grandchildren, great-grand-children, and niece Janet DiBernardo. A Catholic burial will be held at Ascension Cemetery in Airmont New York on Friday April 23, 2021.
