

John was a retired captain with the New York City Police Department and a piper with the NYPD Pipes and Drums. He also served as an adjunct faculty member at John Jay College of Criminal Justice in the school’s Department of Law, Police Science, and Criminal Justice Administration. He held a law degree from the Fordham University School of Law, and a master’s degree from Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government.
He is survived by his husband Fausto Gutierrez, of Atlatlahucan, Morelos; his brothers, Thomas (Columbia), Robert (Josephine) and Peter (Mary); and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews of the Gorman and Gutierrez families.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Margaret, brother, Paul and his great niece, Sheridan Gorman.

Visitation will be held at Cusimano & Russo Funeral Home, 2005 West 6th St, Brooklyn, NY 11223, US, on June 17, 2026, from 3:00 pm to 8pm.
A Funeral Mass will take place at Church of Sts. Simon & Jude, 185 Van Sicklen St, Brooklyn, NY 11223, on June 18, 2026, from 9:45 am to 10:30 am.
Interment will follow at St. John's Cemetery, 80-01 Metropolitian Avenue, Middle Village New York 11379, on June 18, 2026, from 12:00 am to 12:30 pm.
