John Joseph Orlando, a devoted educator, loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2025, at the age of 86.
Born on May 12, 1938, in Brooklyn, New York, to an Italian-American family, John grew up with a deep respect for tradition, family, and education — values that shaped the remarkable life he would go on to lead. He pursued higher education with passion and determination, earning a Bachelor's Degree, a Master's Degree, and an Advanced Certificate in Education and Administration from Brooklyn College, graduating Magna Cum Laude at the top of his class.
John dedicated over 30 years to the field of education, serving as both a teacher and administrator. During his tenure, he taught and counseled hundreds of students, leaving a lasting impact on countless young lives. His dedication extended beyond the classroom, as he spent many years coaching youth football and mentoring young athletes with patience, encouragement, and a belief in their potential.
In retirement, John channeled his lifelong love for music, history, and storytelling into the creation of two films, meticulously curating his collection of music, photographs, and memories. He took great joy in sharing these films throughout the New York metropolitan area and New Jersey, where his presentations brought people together and celebrated the power of community and memory.
John is survived by his beloved wife, Irene; his four children, Jona, Joseph, Erica, and John Jr.; and his four grandchildren, Sarah, Lucca, Giuliana, and Declan. His legacy lives on in their lives and in the many hearts he touched through his life’s work and passions.
He will be remembered for his wisdom, his warmth, his unwavering commitment to education and mentorship, and the love he had for his family.
