Julie's steadfast commitment to the newly created Work Group for Racial Equity of our Eastern Group Psychotherapy Society was huge. She was always a willing contributor to our initiatives and took on countless support tasks that helped the Work Group thrive. I wish she could see the impact her contributions have had on the whole organization. I think of her often with love and gratitude.

Dear Robert and Alicia and all those who knew and cherished Julie, my deepest condolences.  It was over 20 years ago that Julie befriended me at a neighborhood gathering.  I was new there and felt out of place, and Julie’s warmth and friendliness to me was so generous, welcoming and kind. I had the privilege of witnessing Julie become a caring and highly competent social worker and psychotherapist.  She had a beautifully open heart and mind and was always striving to learn more. It was an honor to know her. She will be deeply missed.  Rest In Peace and love Julie.

I was shocked to learn of Julia's death and can only believe that you are reeling from it.  I have never connected with her, but had the intention of calling her to talk about Lois.  My deepest sympathy for your loss.  

Dear  Alicia and Robert,
I am saddened to learn of the passing of Julie.  I am pleased to have known Julie in many capacities.  I first met Julie when she was a member of my class at the Advanced Training program of the Jewish Board of Family and Children’s Services during the 90’s. I  was also her supervisor and mentor for her final presentation from the Advanced Training Program.  Her final presentation was outstanding. She demonstrated her dedication and expertise in working with the chronically mentally ill. Recently we were both members of the EGPS, WGRE.

Over the years, we developed a close collegial  relationship, She visited my home and I visited her home last summer . She introduced me to her husband and shared the story of their meeting and the purchase of their home. Although sick, it was important for Julie to prepare lunch for us. In recent years, she challenged herself to learn more about racism and to share her emotional learning with her family and friends.

I came to know Julie as an intelligent, very caring person who lived her life based on Christian values. She will be missed.

Alicia I join with you and a long list of others in shared sadness’s for the loss of your aunt Julie.

We were born and raised about an hours drive apart.  She was my HomeGirl for many wonderful reasons unrelated to the accident of birth.  She was my HomeGirl throughout our last shared schlep through the Atlanta airport following our life altering trip to The Legacy Museum in Montgomery.  My tears on the keyboard are my salute to a social justice warrior.  May her HomeGoing bring peace to Robert and to all.

I was saddened to hear of Julia's passing.     I remember attending Julia's workshop at an EGPS conference and was impressed by her knowledge, compassion and  kindness.   Her presence will be sorely missed.

I am so very sorry to hear of my cousin Julia's passing. She is such a wonderful, caring and delightful person.  Although I have not seen Julia in a number of years I still have many memories of the summers we spent together when we were younger.  Mom was a teacher so she had summers off, she would pack us kids in the car and we would drive from California to Bradford and spend the summer with our grandparents. Julia, Susie, my sister Patti and my brother Steve and I were close enough in age to hang out together, we had lots of fun. Brigid and John please know that we are here if you need anything and remember Julia will always live on in our hearts.

Julie was a wonderful colleague, loving friend, and deeply committed social justice advocate. Her contributions as a founding member of the Work Group for Racial Equity of the Eastern Group Psychotherapy Society inspired many others. I will remember her enthusiasm and generosity. I will remember her wit and laughter. I will remember the pumpkin bread and banana nut bread she often brought to our gatherings. I'll miss her.

BROOKLYN, NY – Julie Sullivan-Redmond died at her home on May 27, 2020 following a lengthy illness.  Born in Bradford, PA on October 17, 1950, she was the daughter of the late John A. and Lois Lynch Sullivan.  A graduate of Bradford Central Christian High School in 1968, Julie earned a BA in English from Penn State University in 1972, an MA in Communications from Fairfield University in 1982 and an MSW- Masters in Social Work from New York University in 1998.

Julie had a successful career in business, working in Marketing for Clairol and as a Communications Skills Consultant for Exec/Comm.  More than anything, Julie loved helping people.  She transitioned to Clinical Social Work for a second career, working at Bellevue Hospital as a therapist in the Shelter Transitional Living Treatment Program for Homeless Men, as a social worker for The Jewish Board  of Family and Children's Services in the Adult Intensive Case Management Program then as a supervisor at the Brooklyn REALContinuing Day Treatment Program.  In private practice since 2008, Julie helped her clients face their personal and professional challenges.

Julie relished her time New York.  In the city, she met Robert Redmond, the love of her life.  They were married April 7, 1990.  Julie was kind, thoughtful, a devoted and loving wife, sister and friend to many.  A lifelong learner, she never stopped trying to improve and was always ready to take on the next challenge with style, grace and that great Irish wit.  Julie was a member of St. Boniface Church in Brooklyn.

Julie was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Susan Sullivan.   Surviving are her husband Robert, of Brooklyn, sister Brigid Flanigan of Cleveland, OH, brother John (Christy) Sullivan of Bradford, PA.  nephew Gregory (Melanie) Tietjen of Woodbridge, CT,  niece Kennah Sullivan of Bradford, PA and great-niece Zoe Tietjen of Woodbridge, CT.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Julie’s honor can be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.

I was saddened to hear of Julia’s passing.  My thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time.

Julia was always a pleasure to see on the block. Always greeting us with a smile. I am so sorry to hear of her passing but she is at peace and in a better place. RIP Julia East 7th will miss you
