She was a long-time parishioner at St. Barbara's Church in Bushwick. Recently, she attended the Bengali language mass closer to her in the Kensington neighborhood! She knew the mass well since she and her husband were very active in the church. They were at church weekends and during the week, even serving eucharist and praying with hospital patients and those in hospice.
They had six children, but one - Carmita - died at age 9 of leukemia in March of 1967. Her husband came to this country soon after and his wife (our mother) liked it here so they stayed. They are survived by five children (Anita, Freddy, Salo, Tito, and Daisy); the woman who raised all of us children (Regina); brother Honorato and sister Rosa; daughters in law: Lourdes, Ivonne, Susan, Judy; son in law: Avinand; grandchildren: Freddy Cristobal, Stephanie, René, Ariela, Calantha, Kayleen, Nicolás, Evan, Celia, Lucas, and Levi; great grandsons: Emilio, Santiago Lorca; great grand daughters: Salomé, Laura María, and Sophia; sister in law Francelina and nieces Yvonne, Dora, Monica, and nephew Tito, among many other relatives in the U.S. and Ecuador.
She liked to sing, dance, swim, and play cuarenta; she crocheted; she was an avid telenovela watcher. She traveled to Ecuador regularly in the past and later in life, she enjoyed traveling to Europe with family. She went on a pilgrimage to the holy places in Egypt, Israel, and Jordan in 2022.
"La jefa" was our matriarch and always kept our family united for Saturday dinners and karaoke!
We will miss her deeply!
